Why Use Reverse Osmosis System

Clean drinking water is essential not only for health purposes but also for our bodies to function properly.  It was once thought that unsafe drinking water could only be found in third world countries.  But this is not true.  It is a fact that most United States tap water and well water is contaminated heavily with man made pollutants.  Because of this, many Americans are turning to getting a reverse osmosis system to purify the water in their homes.  If you would like more information about reverse osmosis systems and why you should get one, please read on.

First of all, you need to know what a reverse osmosis system does.   A reverse osmosis system uses a process in which water is forced through a semi permeable membrane that has very small holes or pores.  (A semi permeable membrane is a membrane that will allow some atoms or molecules to pass, but not others).  Clean water passes through and impurities that are too big to pass through the semi permeable membrane are left behind and flushed away.

Some things that a reverse osmosis system filters out of your water are:  lead, copper, arsenic, cadmium, chlorine, giardia, pesticides, salt, trihalomethanes, sulfates, cysts, and nitrates. The reverse-osmosis membrane can also screen some bacteria and viruses.

Now for some terrible facts that will probably leave you second guessing the safety of your drinking water.  First of all, all of are American bodies of water are contaminated by some means.   This includes all municipal water systems, wells, lakes, rivers, and even glaciers, contain.  These contaminants range from naturally occurring minerals to man made chemicals and by products such as:  lead, chlorine, trash, oil, and thousands of others.  Many of the contaminants found are at levels not high enough not to cause immediate discomforts or sicknesses. However , it is proven that even a low level exposure to many of these common contaminants will, over time, cause severe illness.  Some of these illnesses include: stomach problems, liver damage, cancer, and other serious ailments.  While the water you drink may be treated, the chemicals commonly used to treat municipal water supplies (such as chlorine and fluoride) are known to be toxic.  They also can have significant adverse effects on the human body.

These were some important facts about your drinking water and about reverse osmosis systems and why you need one.  Hopefully, this didn't scare you too much!  Sometimes the truth is not always a pleasant thing to hear.   A reverse osmosis system is truly a beneficial way to provide your family with safe and clean drinking water.  If you have one in your home, you are sure to feel better about what you are actually drinking.
